Senate Passes Supplemental Budget

This past month, the Senate approved a $94.6 million supplemental budget for the state. The budget included $13 million to fund emergency homeless shelters and  $20 million to provide low-income heating assistance. The House and Senate enacted the supplemental budget on October 24th and the Governor signed the bill on October 29th.

On October 18th, I spoke about the importance of fighting the stigma that often accompanies mental health issues at the Association for Behavioral Healthcare's "Salute to Excellence" ceremony.
VALOR Act II

As Vice-Chair of the Comittee on Veterans and Federal Affairs, I'm pleased to announce that the Senate unanimously passed An Act relative to veterans’ allowances, labor, outreach, and recognition (the VALOR Act II). The VALOR Act II incorporates many proposals from legislators and veterans into one bill that strives to better recognize and honor those who have served our country. For more details on the specific provisions within the VALOR Act II, I encourage you to read my press release.
An Act ensuring the safety of people with pets in disasters

On October 10th, the same day the Senate passed the Valor Act II, the Senate also voted to engross a bill I co-sponsored, S.1172: "An Act ensuring the safety of people with pets in disasters". As a legislator and pet owner, I proudly supported this bill, which will have emergency evacuation plans include strategies to support those with pets and service animals.
